The Cats of Hanover Facebook Group is Seven Years Old

Seven years ago today, inspired by Rosie, the Cats of Hanover Facebook Group was set up.

The group is dedicated to the cats of Hanover, their personalities and their activities/antics; where Hanover based cat lovers can read news and trivia about cats (not forgetting looking at cat pictures and videos).

It now has over 3,800 human staff members (either living in Hanover or with connections to Hanover) who have cats, have had cats or who simply love cats.

During the last seven years the group has helped people meet and network either electronically via the net, or directly as a result of the many Cats of Hanover Portrait Exhibitions held in the Dover in aid of local cat charities.

Over this period the group has:

- helped people introduce and celebrate new cat members of their households,
- provided a source of comfort and support on sad occasions,
- helped guide cats who have gone AWOL back to their homes, and
- proactively supported the Cats of Hanover Portrait Exhibitions.

Although Rosie is, sadly, no longer with us the group will always continue to do this; and the fact that it will continue to do this means that Rosie will not be forgotten, and her spirit/ethos will live on in the group.

She was a most excellent Mogmin, and her wise counsel will continue to be followed by her human staff acting on her behalf.

One day we will share our home with another cat, and that cat will take on the role of Mogmin.

Next Spring we will hold another cat portrait exhibition (raising money for local cats) in the Dover; where Rosie's memory and ethos can continue to help future generations of cats, and inspire/help their human staff.

Thank you to all the cats and their human staff over the years for making this group what it is; a supportive, friendly, welcoming place.

Cats may be small, but they have large personalities!

Shortage of Cat and Dog Vaccines

Vets are warning that there is a national  shortage of cat and dog vaccines.

The shortage has been brought about by covid disrupting supply chains, and a global increase in the ownership of cats and dogs.

It is unlikely that the situation will improve before sometime in 2022, as such vets are rationing vaccines and limiting registrations of new pets.

RIP Rosie (2009-2021)

We collected Rosie's ashes yesterday afternoon from Coastways, and brought them home.

We buried the ashes themselves in the earth near the palm tree that she used to enjoy climbing in her youth. To mark the spot we have placed a copper coal scuttle containing various rose plants. Later on we intend to plant a rose bush there.

The bamboo casket that her ashes came in is now home to her toy mouse that she has had since she was a kitten, when we took her home from the RSPCA in Patcham in 2009.

We had a drink in her memory in the Napier and the Dover last night.

RIP Rosie (2009-2021)

Farewell Rosie (2009-2021)

It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that Rosie died, after a short illness, yesterday afternoon.

She was not alone when she died, and was at least happy and relaxed at the the end.

She was a lovely little cat, and will be much missed.

The Joy of Living With a Cat - Stepping in Early Morning Cat Puke

Thank you Rosie for giving me an extra special start to my day by puking on the Chinese rug during the night, and allowing me to step in it first thing in the morning!
