Daisy Starts To Explore Her New Home

Having spent her first 10 days with us mainly in our bedroom, we are gradually introducing Daisy to other rooms in her new home (as a house can be overwhelming for a new kitten all in one go).

Here she is discovering part of the lounge.

The Mobile Cat Transportation Device

I have decided to ditch the old stress inducing front loading cat carrier, and have purchased this foldable mobile cat transportation device (top loading) for what I hope are very rare visits to the vets.

Daisy has yet to be introduced to it. Hopefully she will not find it to be too stressful when deployed.

Cats Have Distinctive Attachment Styles

A new study shows that cats may be just as affectionate as dogs. The study, which was published in Current Biology, found that pet cats also have distinct attachment styles toward their owners in the same way dogs and babies do.

The research, which was done by a team at Oregon State University, also found that 64% of cats showed what is known as a "secure" attachment style, meaning they showed no signs of distress when their caregivers left the room and a healthy mix of attachment and exploration when they returned.

The other percentage, around 35, showed insecure attachment, which means they were stressed until they their owners returned, and when they did return, they showed a mix of excessive contact, avoidant behaviour or disorganized behaviour.

The team examined 70 kittens and 38 cats for the study, and placed the cats in a room with the owner for two minutes before removing them for the same amount of time. They then examined the cats' behaviour in order to categorize them.

I could have told them that!

Cat Litter Bulk Purchase

In retrospect, ordering 180 litres (90kg) of cat litter may have been a tad overenthusiastic!

Daisy

At the beginning of last week we received an email from the RSPCA Patcham (where we homed Rosie from in 2009).

We had kept in touch with the RSPCA over the years, and had told them the sad news about Rosie. They said that they had a kitten just come in needing a home.

We picked her up yesterday, please welcome Daisy. She is 12 weeks old, and now a very welcome member of our household.

Daisy has some big paws (figuratively speaking) to follow, but I have no doubt that she will prove to be a worthy successor to Rosie.

We will never forget Rosie, but I am sure that she would be very happy to know that we have offered a home to another cat in need from the RSPCA.

Rosie's song has ended, but the story never ends!
